Developments On Robotics
Robotics is a branch of science that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots. In this field of science, a lot of scientists, mathematicians, and technicians agree that robotics is a fascinating field but all the more does it need development. There have been a lot of companies who try to develop on this field nowadays and of course, there are blogs and articles which feature them. One of which is the blogsite, RoboticsNedir.
RoboticsNedir: http://roboticsnedir.com/
This website concentrates on different blogs about robotics. It features achievements, developments, and the latest news on robotic technology. This weblog also mentions the movie I, Robot. They compare their humanoid technology to the ones seen in the said movie. In I, Robot, they named their robots VIKI and Herbie while in RoboDynamics, they call it Luna.
"Engineers in the field of robotics seem to invest a lot of effort into creating humanoid robots"
In my opinion, they do seem to create a lot of robots which function and look like humans. In effect, these robots tend to take place of humans, maybe as a secretary, a receptionist, a security guard, and who knows maybe a movie director someday. Nobody can really tell in our time. Here are some pictures of Humanoid Robots:

Some robots aren't just for "replacing" humans. Other robots are programmed for the contribution to the environment. An example would be ZEN Robotics' machine that helps in recycling thus helping the environment. "Harri Valpola (CEO of Zen Robotics) explained that the system was now able to manage the traditional waste management systems, such as drums or mechanically resistant."

Another example would be the article on "Kuka Robotics Develops Industrial Robot To Ensure Human Safety". (URL: http://goo.gl/VW4qL) According to this article that it is possible for a robot and a human to work together to carry a load with the help of intelligent assist devices (IAD). The only concern is the safety of the human the robot is working with. These machines have to be remodeled to make sure that they are safe to work with. Kuka Robotics developed a robot that has been guaranteed to be safe for humans. They say that this robot is built with actuators and joint torque sensors, so that the robot has collision sensing and absorbing capacities. This robot’s power is such that it will not cause injury to a human even while performing the clamping operation.
These are only some of my reactions to the recent developments and advancements on the field of robotics. Some are beneficial implications because they show that the advancement of robotics has good effects and is a big help to humans (e.g. they save time and effort for them). But also, these are also deleterious implications because if the advancement of the robotic technology continues, humans may have that tendency to start getting lazy and to rely their work on the robots. So there are beneficial and negative effects to these developments and advancements.

I like your 2nd name ;)
My guy doesn't seem proud of his 2nd name. I, for one, like it. And to prove my love for his name. I made the picture you see on top. #effort

Thoreau Excerpt (Repent Harlequin)
Reading " 'Repent Harlequin!' said the Ticktock Man" was quite fascinating. There was this quote in the beginning of the story by Henry David Thoreau stating that:
"The mass of men serve the state thus, not as men mainly, but as machines, with their bodies. They are the standing army, and the militia, jailers, constables, posse comitatus, etc. In most cases there is no free exercise whatever of the judgment or of the moral sense; but they put themselves on a level with wood and earth and stones; and wooden men can perhaps be manufactured that will serve the purpose as well. Such command no more respect than men of straw or a lump of dirt. They have the same sort of worth only as horses and dogs. Yet such as these even are commonly esteemed good citizens. Others—as most legislators, politicians, lawyers, ministers, and office-holders—serve the state chiefly with their heads; and, as they rarely make any moral distinctions, they are as likely to serve the devil, without intending it, as God. A very few—as heroes, patriots, martyrs, reformers in the great sense, and men—serve the state with their consciences also, and so necessarily resist it for the most part; and are commonly treated as enemies by it."
According to this quote. I understand that there are different types of people classified into three.
1.) The mass of men who serve "with their bodies"
2.) The men who serve with their consciences
3.) The men who serve with intellect
The mass of men who serve "with their bodies"
"The mass of men serve the state thus, not as men mainly, but as machines, with their bodies. They are the standing army, and the militia, jailers, constables, posse comitatus, etc." In my opinion, these are the people who are able to do work with their physical bodies. In the story, I'd compare this to Pretty Alice. According to http://echeat.net/essay.php?t=27574 "The men who served with their bodies was populace, represented by Pretty Alice, who wanted to belong, wanted to conform."
The men who serve with their consciences
"In most cases there is no free exercise whatever of the judgment or of the moral sense; but they put themselves on a level with wood and earth and stones; and wooden men can perhaps be manufactured that will serve the purpose as well. Such command no more respect than men of straw or a lump of dirt. They have the same sort of worth only as horses and dogs." These are the people who I think can be compared to the Harlequin. The Harlequin had his own way of thinking. Despite the existence of the Ticktock Man and him being aware of the dangers that might be bestowed upon him, he still kept rebelling because he had his own ways. He stood firm on what he thought was "right" in a sense.
The men who serve with intellect
"Others—as most legislators, politicians, lawyers, ministers, and office-holders—serve the state chiefly with their heads;" These are the people who I think are intelligent enough to figure things out and to stand out. Just like the Ticktock Man, these people are the ones who order other people around. The Ticktock Man was superior in a way that everybody feared him because of what he/it can do.

Is this kind of people evident in the Philippine society?
Yes. An example would be former President Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos. He was the 10th president of the Philippines. He declared Martial Law in his term. To make things basic, he was REALLY REALLY strict with his rules. His rules MUST be implied and followed. In 1983, Benigno Aquino Jr. was assassinated and it was believed to be the doing of Marcos because Aquino wanted to run against him for president. But during Marcos' reign, the Philippines was in the greatest shape you'd ever imagine. The economy was progressing, people were disciplined, the environment was cleaner than it is now. It was almost too perfect. The only thing Marcos wanted was to make the Philippines a better place.
Just like the Ticktock Man, he disciplines people to be ALWAYS on time -- trying to make them be on the dot, not missing appointments. Discipline is always for the better. He'd make sure that time is used wisely and that every second of your life is fruitful.

DLSC -- My Understanding On SciFi
As to what has been discussed, I now understand that Science Fiction is totally different from Fantasy. Science Fiction involves Science (well, duh?) as to Fantasy does not. For example, "Meet Dave", "Astroboy", "Jurassic Park", etc.
Good SciFi Movies:
1.) The Terminator - The movie includes the Science of Robotics and Artificial intelligence (A.I) and it never failed to portray it until the end of the movie.
2.) Future X-Cops - The movie is also about a cyborg. Much like terminator, The Cyborg is sent out to kill someone. The Science in the movie is also the art of Robotics and A.I.
3.) Virus (1980) - The movie involves the science of a virus (obviously), on how it was accidentally created by a geneticist that amplifies the potency of any other virus or bacteria it comes in contact with. Within a number of months, almost the whole population has died because of this except for some people.
Weak SciFi Movies:
1.) Spiderman - The movie is about an ordinary guy named Peter Parker. What made him become Spiderman is the science to it. He got bitten by a radioactive spider then he became Spidey overnight -- producing webs, having the ability to punch really hard, etc. I think it's a weak movie because the Science of it hasn't been portrayed all through out the movie. It has only been portrayed at the beginning.
2.) Inception - The movie talks about the science of dreams. They say that you are part of a different realm when you dream, and there's this machine that let's you be the architect of your own world -- a world where you're in charge. I think this is a weak SciFi movie because it's not possible (yet, i think) thus it's not believable.

College -- A New Beginning
May 23rd of year 2011 was the start of my new beginning -- College. Yes, college. On the first day I stepped into De La Salle-Canlubang (DLSC), I felt like starting over. But I never felt like I'm new to the place, maybe because I'm near to it or because I've been there a couple of times, or MAYBE it's just 'cause I know a lot of people there which makes me feel at home.
I've gone to DLSC's College Week when I was still in my 4th year High School. Students who've accompanied us say that DLSC is the largest La Salle (in terms of lot) in the country. They also say that it is the best La Salle institution. These students came from Manila, Benilde, etc. and say that they like Canlubang the most because it's free from pollution, it offers a clean and green environment and you can really focus on academics here. They were really trying to convince us to enroll in DLSC. Eventually, it worked.

Now that I'm enrolled in DLSC, I can feel the Animo spirit. Higher batches have been really friendly and welcoming. I am glad that I'm enrolled here.
